About UsPresident Maria C. Alamo, MPH, RD, LD*, brings her 20 years' experience in the food, health, nutrition and marketing fields to Salud Consulting, Inc. Fluent in English and Spanish, Maria specializes in applying knowledge of Hispanic consumer trends and traditions to help corporations and trade associations develop, execute and evaluate food products, recipes, communication programs and more. Her expertise allows her to conceptualize and implement initiatives targeted to consumers, healthcare and culinary professionals, and to identify business opportunities that can strengthen brand-specific product positioning. Born in Madrid, Spain, Maria grew up in Puerto Rico before attending Tulane University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she completed a BS in Psychobiology and a Master of Public Health in Nutrition. She did her dietetics residency at a local hospital, before working her way up to manage the Clinical Nutrition Department and a prestigious National Institutes of Health research grant for Children's Hospital. Maria founded Salud Consulting, Inc., in 2001 after nearly ten years in the Chicago area as a research and nutrition specialist for Kraft Foods, then as Vice President of Nutrition Communications for Edelman Public Relations Worldwide. She is thrilled to merge the culinary, communications and creativity as a successful entrepreneur. "It's been a great journey," says Maria. " This setting allows me to work simultatenously on the multiple facets of this exciting profession."
